You Can Now Cancel Switch eShop Pre-Orders Up To One Week Before Release

Payment processed seven days before launch.
Pre-ordering a digital game might seem a little strange given that there's zero chance of the supplier running out of stock, but sometimes there are bonuses (double Gold Points, for example) or you may want to get the game pre-loaded and ready to rock on Day One. Fair enough!
Previously, Nintendo charged you at the time of placing the pre-order on the Switch eShop, whether the game was launching in a couple of days or a couple of months. However, now it seems that players won't be charged until seven days before release of the software. At that point you'll be unable to cancel, but until then you are able to change your mind and cancel your pre-order at any time.

Paper Mario: The Origami King Almost Had EXP After All

What could have been.
<a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/paper_mario_the_origami_king">Paper Mario: The Origami King</a> is a good time, as you'll know from <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/nintendo-switch/paper_mario_the_origami_king">our review</a>. However, there are fans of the series who aren't pleased by the fact that it lacks any kind of experience or levelling system – especially as it's pitched as a proper RPG experience, as several other entries in the franchise have been.
However, it would seem that EXP was considered for the game at one point. A variable called "battle_win_exP’" is actually mentioned in the save file data, which you can open using a text program on your computer – it's not even hidden or concealed.

Despite taking a <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/08/random_zelda_fan_smashes_ps4_in_rage_as_breath_of_the_wild_clone_genshin_impact_is_revealed">massive helping</a> of inspiration from <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild">Zelda: Breath of the Wild</a>, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/genshin_impact">Genshin Impact</a> is shaping up to be a pretty decent action RPG, with great character design, high production values and (seemingly) plenty of entertainment potential thanks to its <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/05/guide_genshin_impact_-_everything_we_know_so_far_about_this_ambitious_zelda_wannabe">massive cast and wide range of locations</a>.
Developer miHoYo has just released a new story trailer to drum up hype for the title ahead of its September 28th release. Before you get too excited, however, that release date only covers the PS4, Android, iOS and PC versions of the game – the Switch version doesn't have a confirmed date as yet. It's worth noting that Genshin Impact will support both solo and co-op play and will support cross-play across all devices.

Random: Japanese Comedian Pikotaro Has Joined Forces With Pokémon's Pikachu For A New Viral Hit

"PIKA to PIKO".
Japanese comedian Kazuhito Kosaka – better known for his comedy character Pikotaro – scored a viral hit with <a class="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0E00Zuayv9Q">PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen)</a> back in 2016, and has continued to pump out similar songs since. He's now joined forces with The Pokémon Company to create a new song called <a class="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUNo4aB8xFE">PIKA to PIKO</a>.
The song was revealed during this weekend's Pokémon Virtual Fest "Summer Stage", and Pikotaro was even turned into a <a class="external" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4I6e_NBCaw">rather disturbing 3D model</a> in order to promote it.

Mario turns 35 this year (the <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nes/super_mario_bros">NES original</a> hit Japan on September 13th, 1985), but it would seem that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has scuppered the plans Nintendo had to celebrate this milestone.
<a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/03/nintendo_to_remaster_most_of_super_mariors_35-year_catalogue_for_switch_in_2020_new_report_says">As has been reported by numerous sources</a>, the company is working on a Switch collection which includes remastered versions of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/n64/super_mario_64">Super Mario 64</a>, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/gamecube/super_mario_sunshine">Super Mario Sunshine</a> and <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/wii/super_mario_galaxy">Super Mario Galaxy</a>, and there are plans to produce a special edition of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/wiiu/super_mario_3d_world">Super Mario 3D World</a> for the console, too.

Koji Igarashi Explains How Zelda Influenced His Work On Castlevania And Bloodstained

While Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is the game which is credited as fusing the non-linear approach of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/snes/super_metroid">Super Metroid</a> and the gothic stylings of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/feature-best-castlevania-games-on-nintendo-consoles">Konami's famous vampire-hunting series</a>, Koji Igarashi has been <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/03/ex_castlevania_chief_koji_igarashi_is_grateful_for_the_term_metroidvania_but_was_actually_aiming_for_zelda_in_2d">quite firm</a> on the fact that it was in fact <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/snes/legend_of_zelda_a_link_to_the_past">Zelda: A Link to the Past</a> which was the primary influence on both SotN and the subsequent <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/feature-best-nintendo-switch-metroidvania-games">"Metroidvanias"</a> he created.
Fittingly, Jeremy Parish – who has done so much during his career to popularise the term (although he admits it was his former 1UP.com colleague Scott Sharkey who was the one who actually coined it) – took the time to chat with Igarashi about how Zelda had such a massive impact on the design of SotN, and how its sensibilities are still directing his work on current games, including <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/bloodstained_ritual_of_the_night">Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night</a>.
