Nintendo Confirms Removal Of Switch Online SNES Classic

<p><strong>Super Soccer will "no longer be available".</strong></p>
<p>Following yesterday's update about the removal of <strong><a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/02/nintendo-switch-online-announces-removal-of-super-famicom-title">Super Formation Soccer</a></strong> from the Switch Online Super Famicom service in Japan, Nintendo has now confirmed the local version of the game will also "no longer be available" later this month.</p>
<p>The official game page for <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/snes/super_soccer">Super Soccer</a> on the Switch Online Super Nintendo service notes how this title will be removed from this digital game library on <strong>27th March 2025</strong> (<em>or 28th March, depending on your location</em>). The title is listed as a Spike Chunsoft-licensed release.</p>

<p><strong>We're getting Scarlet and Violet vibes.</strong></p>
<p>One year after its initial announcement, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/pokemon_legends_z-a">Pokémon Legends: Z-A</a> has finally been <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/02/pokemon-legends-z-a-trailer-confirms-starters-and-mega-evolutions-coming-late-2025">showcased properly</a> during the most recent Pokémon Presents, giving us a good look at the upcoming title's gameplay and features. It wasn't quite the deep dive many of us were hoping for, but it was certainly enough to whet our appetites for the 'late 2025' launch window.</p>
<p>We're generally quite pleased with what we saw, all told: the battle system looks neat; Mega Evolutions are back; you can <em>jump between building rooftops,</em> for goodness' sake. Lots of cool stuff. We can't help but feel like it's a bit lacking in the visual department, though (<em>"Shocking"</em>, we hear you say). Granted, Pokémon games have never been graphical powerhouses – at least since the move into the 3D realm – but going from <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/pokemon_legends_arceus">Pokémon Legends: Arceus</a> to this is a bit of a blow, to be honest.</p>

<p>Switch 2 rumours have <em>kind of</em> slowed down since Nintendo <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/01/nintendo-switch-2-reveal-trailer-gives-first-official-look-at-the-new-console">aired the first look at the system in January</a>, but there are still some floating about. Now, in an update, we've got a look at what's apparently a leaked model of the system's dock.</p>
<p>While Nintendo has shown off the new system in its initial reveal trailer (along with a new set of Joy-Con controllers and their possible mouse-like capabilities), the dock remains a little more mysterious. There have been some supposed leaks already, and now the latest look doing the rounds online is in the form of a 3D CAD model.</p>

<p>As the Steam Deck turns three years old, and many of us laud its praises for allowing accessible PC gaming on-the-go, market research firm IDC has estimated that the handheld console has shifted roughly around 4 million units since its arrival in February 2022.</p>
<p><a class="external" href="https://www.theverge.com/pc-gaming/618709/steam-deck-3-year-anniversary-handheld-gaming-shipments-idc">The Verge</a> spoke to the IDC, which uses supply chains to estimate the amount of gaming systems have been shifted worldwide in order to <a class="external" href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=US50814724">create spending forecasts</a> (via <a class="external" href="https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2025/02/steam-decks-install-base-estimated-to-be-about-a-third-of-ps-vita">Push Square</a>). According to IDC, roughly 6 million handheld units — which includes the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus ROG Ally, among others — have been sold, not consoles such as the Ayaneo or GPD, which are manufactured in China.</p>

<p>With Switch entering its <em>ninth</em> year on 3rd March 2025, and with <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/02/nintendo-switch-hardware-sales-pass-150-million-with-ps2s-record-still-a-way-off">over 150 million units sold</a> and more <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/guides/best-selling-nintendo-switch-games-every-first-party-title-to-pass-one-million-sales">million-selling games</a> than we've had hot dinners, it's hard to remember a time when Nintendo pooling its portable and home console software teams behind a single system felt like a risky move. As Wii U foundered, it was the slow-starting 3DS that kept Nintendo fans' candles burning during The Lean Wii U Years™, so putting all its eggs in one basket felt like a gamble.</p>
<p>It wasn't <em>really</em> much of a gamble, all told. Not only did Nintendo's vast cash reserves mean it could weather several generations of flops, but by leaning on its IP and investing heavily in non-gaming areas (merch, movies, and theme parks), not to mention its mobile experiments, the company went and got a whole new bunch of multimedia baskets for its eggs. Switch 2 could be a catastrophic failure but Nintendo's got a long runway; it would multiple catastrophic failures to result in proper Nintendoom.</p>

<p>While the <a href="https://www.purexbox.com/games/xbox-series-x/palworld">Palworld</a> case continues to tick away in the background, The Pokémon Company has recently won <em>another</em> lawsuit against a Chinese mobile app on the grounds of copyright infringement and acts of unfair competition (thanks, <a href="https://www.eurogamer.net/pokemon-wins-substantial-damages-and-public-apology-in-long-running-battle-against-chinese-clone-game">Eurogamer</a>).</p>
<p>TPC's case against 'Pocket Monster: Remake' (or, sometimes, 'Pocket Monster: Issue/Reissue') has been running for years. Starting back in 2022, the Pokémon studio announced that it was seeking damages of around £60 million / $70 million, claiming that the app clearly ripped assets and gameplay from the Pokémon series — we've attached some footage from YouTube account <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@jameshu6915">James Hu</a> below, so you can see the app in action.</p>

But, with <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/features/poll-10-years-on-which-version-of-zelda-majoras-mask-is-best">Majora's Mask 3D celebrating its anniversary</a> last week, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/02/rumour-kirby-planet-robobot-will-indeed-come-to-switch-its-claimed">rumours of a Kirby: Planet Robobot remaster</a> ever rumbling and <em>still</em> no sign of a <strong>Rhythm Heaven</strong> on Switch, we're craving even more 3DS action in 2025.</p>

<p>Aspiring artists are constantly recreating Nintendo's properties as live-action and animated shorts and this latest one, which was uploaded to YouTube in January, showcases what <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/legend_of_zelda_breath_of_the_wild">Zelda: Breath of the Wild</a> might look like as an anime opening.</p>
<p>It's actually been crafted by the "2023 Chungkang Animation School 2nd Grade" and is a "thesis film" with a runtime of roughly two and a half minutes. It's backed by the Japanese pop single <a class="external" href="https://youtu.be/nhOhFOoURnE">"RGB" by Yoasobi</a> and highlights Link, Zelda, the four champions as well as some other friendly and not-so-friendly faces like the Guardians.</p>

<p>A new report from <a href="https://insider-gaming.com/1010-games-employees-offered-no-severance-laid-off-while-on-holiday-and-more/">Insider Gaming</a> (thanks, <a href="https://www.eurogamer.net/1010-games-cuts-20-jobs-after-complete-commercial-and-critical-failure-of-debut-game-funko-fusion">Eurogamer</a>) has revealed that multiple layoffs have occurred at studio 10:10 Games following the release of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/funko_fusion">Funko Fusion</a> in 2024.</p>
<p>Essentially, anonymous sources have stated that the game was a "complete commercial and critical failure" and is the primary catalyst behind around 20 unconfirmed job losses. According to the sources, some of those let go were also on holiday at the time, and felt obligated to attend consultation meetings despite being on leave and within different time zones.</p>

<p>Developer Toby Fox is back with another update on the much-anticipated <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/switch-eshop/deltarune_chapter_1and2">Deltarune</a> Chapter 3 and 4, inching toward an as-yet unknown release date that is still promised to come later this year.</p>
<p>In short, console testing is still ongoing. Our assumption here is that the Switch is included in these tests, but Fox has not specified this in the <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/tobyfox.undertale.com/post/3lidfymh7lk2p">BlueSky post</a>. Instead, he merely states that testing has yet to begin on the PS5, with a previous post stating that PlayStation trophies will need to be tested at some point due to their mandatory requirement.</p>

<p>This week in the UK, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/sid_meiers_civilization_vii">Sid Meier's Civilization VII</a> makes its debut and starts off strong at number 2, beating the likes of <a href="https://www.pushsquare.com/games/ps5/kingdom_come_deliverance_ii">Kingdom Come: Deliverance II</a> and <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/mario_kart_8_deluxe">Mario Kart 8 Deluxe</a>, but not quite able to topple the might of <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/ea_sports_fc_25">EA Sports FC 25</a>.</p>
<p>Still, can't complain, and the Switch version in particular has done pretty well, outselling PC and Xbox to claim 27% of the overall platform split. Granted, PC is barely operational in retail spaces these days, and Xbox... well, neither is Xbox, to be honest. We'll take the win, though.</p>

<p>We were more than a little surprised when Hideki Kamiya and Capcom popped up at The Game Awards to <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/12/okami-sequel-announced-will-be-directed-by-hideki-kamiya">announce an Okami sequel</a>. Surprised, but excited. The title is still in early development and we know very little about it, but in a recent interview with <a href="https://www.ign.com/articles/okami-2-capcom-hideki-kamiya-and-machine-head-discuss-hotly-anticipated-sequel-in-exclusive-interview">IGN</a>, some of its creatives began to explain what we can expect from the sequel and how it'll fit with the series' previous entries.</p>
<p>Throughout the interview with Kamiya, Capcom producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, and Machine Head Works producer Kiyohiko Sakata, the trio refer to the upcoming sequel as "a continuation of the story that we saw in the original game". But, as any <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/wii/okami">Okami</a> fan will be able to tell you, we've already seen a follow-up (of sorts) in the 2011 DS follow-up, <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/games/ds/okamiden">Okamiden</a>.</p>

<p>This will apparently be a "first-of-its-kind" event taking place in Las Vegas between <strong>April</strong> <strong>27th</strong> - <strong>April 30th, 2026</strong> connecting "visionaries, thought leaders and innovators" from across industries within interactive entertainment. The plan is to also bring together a "broad spectrum of sectors that converge with interactive entertainment". This includes "film, television and music, as well as sports, healthcare, education, finance" and more.</p>

New Nintendo Patent Seems To Confirm Mouse Functionality For Switch 2

<p>A new patent filed by Nintendo seems to confirm that the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con will include mouse functionality. The patent was filed on 1st April 2023 and <a class="external" href="https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2025027803">made public today</a>, 6th February 2025 (thanks to reader Davis for sending this to us!).</p>
<p>Sure, we've been pretty confident about mouse functionality given the number of leaks over the past few months, and that <a href="https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/01/joy-con-mouse-functionality-seemingly-confirmed-in-switch-2-trailer">little teaser in the Switch 2 reveal trailer</a>, but Nintendo has yet to officially confirm that this is even a feature.</p>
